With free turn-by-turn directions coming in iOS 6, companies that provide GPS apps for IOS will be hard-pressed to convince consumers that they should shell out money for their apps. Telenav is hoping to make the argument with an update to Scout, its turn-by-turn navigation and local search app. The new version offers offline maps and navigation, broken down in three large downloadable map packs for the US. The offline feature actually isn't a first, even for Telenav, but previously it was only available in its AT&T Navigator app. Along with offline maps. Telenav is making speech recognition available on the free version, though voice-guidance is still limited to the full version. The premium feature runs $9.99 per year or $2.99 per month — but there's a 30-day trial available.
