In a bid to increase user interest in its Moto Z, Motorola is partnering with Indiegogo to launch a contest to find the best ideas for Moto Mods. Motorola wants developers to enter its Moto Mods Developer contest and submit ideas that could eventually end up getting attached to your modular device.

Developers who submit ideas will have a chance to attend hackathons in San Francisco and New York in December, and — once they have a working prototype of their Moto Mod — launch a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.

Ten finalists (selected by a judging panel of industry leaders) will win a trip to Motorola headquarters in Chicago to meet with the Moto Mods executive team who will help refine and bring the idea to life. The finalists will also be able to meet with Verizon Ventures and Lenovo Capital, which has set aside $1 million in potential funding for ideas that stand out.

This is basically a way for Motorola to test out a bunch of ideas without having to put forth much effort. Whether or not any of these ideas will actually be something you’d want to buy is another question. If Motorola hasn’t convinced you with its current slate of Moto Mods, one could question whether third-party crowdfunded developers will have better luck. Developers interested in submitting their ideas can sign up at
