Kind of pricey, though

Finsix launched the Dart, allegedly the "world's smallest laptop charger," a couple months ago in September. And now the company is back with an upgraded version, the Dart-C. Finsix claims this one is "the world’s smallest charger for USB Type-C laptops."

The Dart charger consists of a 65W wall plug with a proprietary removable cable that offers a variety of swappable laptop charging tips and a USB port for charging. The Dart-C is almost the exact same thing, but has a USB-C cable. It costs the same $99.99 as the regular, non-USB-C Dart charger, and a $34.99 Dart compatible USB-C cable will also be sold separately for existing Dart owners. Both will be available in January 2017.

And while the Dart idea works well for older laptops: the ability to easily charge a wide variety of computers with a dramatically smaller power brick is appealing. But USB-C chargers already tend to be much smaller than traditional laptop chargers, and the Dart-C's $99.99 price point makes it more expensive than even Apple's most expensive $79 87W USB-C wall adapter, which also offers more power than the Dart-C.

Still, it's nice to see more high-powered alternatives for USB-C chargers. The advantage of more and more companies using an open standard is that anyone can, in theory, built a USB-C charger that can work with any device. And while the Dart-C may not be the one charger to rule them all, it's at least a step in the right direction.
