It’s not often that I squee at a gadget. Something about their reflective metal gives off a sterile vibe. A big-screen TV doesn’t sound my cute alarm, you know? But these lil guys:
Major cute alarm alert. Hyerim Shin, a graduate student at the Royal College of Art, wanted to experiment with how to make home appliances cute, so taking inspiration from Japanese kawaii culture, she built a toaster, vacuum, and garbage can. For real, I never thought I’d think a garbage can is cute, but times change I guess. Beyond their cute pastels and supple design, each device does something a little different to make it stand out. The toaster sneezes when it’s accumulated too many breadcrumbs; the vacuum poops out its canister of debris when it’s full; and the garbage can mimics shy children by wriggling and turning away from its owner when its bag needs to be changed.
I know what you’re thinking: A pooping vacuum? Ha, no thanks. But seriously, watch that video embedded above. Turns out pooping gadgets can be endearing. Where's my pooping smartphone?
