Alcatel has announced that the Idol 4S smartphone will be available to preorder from its website in the US beginning Friday, July 15th. The Idol 4S, which was originally announced at Mobile World Congress in February, comes with a virtual reality headset and has VR content available through an app preloaded on it. The whole kit, which includes the phone, VR headset, case, and tempered glass screen protector, is priced at $349.99 for preorders. The price will go up to $399.99 when it hits general availability on August 3rd.

Like last year’s Idol 3, the Idol 4S provides a lot of bang for your buck, as it has premium materials and high-end specs. Its 5.5-inch AMOLED display has quad HD resolution, and its 16-megapixel camera has an f/2.0 aperture lens and 4K video capabilities. The Idol 4S is one of the first phones to launch with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 652 processor, and it has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. It also has dual SIM card slots, SD card support, and a fingerprint scanner on the back.

Alcatel’s Idol 3 impressed us a lot last year, but it was significantly cheaper than the 4S. The Idol 4S represents a move up in the price brackets for the company, and with that move, comes stiffer competition. Alcatel does appear to have a good phone on paper, so we’ll be seeing how it measures up in our forthcoming review.
