Cricket Wireless is bundling Alcatel’s VR headset with the Idol 4 for $200

Alcatel's Idol 4 and Idol 4S

Alcatel’s Idol 4 was announced at the beginning of this year, and it’s now available in the US at Cricket Wireless. The phone was always intended to be affordable and lower end, so we didn’t expect it to come bundled with a VR headset. Now, though, Cricket is selling the phone along with a VR headset for only $199.99. That VR viewer works with content from Alcatel’s VR store or from Littlstar. This is a step up from Google Cardboard and a few big steps below Samsung’s new Gear VR. But hey, it’s affordable VR.

The phone specs aren’t that bad, either. It's the same hardware as the new Blackberry DTEK50:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor
  • 16GB of internal storage
  • 2,610 mAh battery
  • 13-megapixel rear-facing camera
  • 8-megapixel front-facing camera

Okay they aren’t great. The larger, higher-end version of the Idol 4, the Idol 4S, also comes with a headset but costs $400.
