Samsung is interested in keeping its devices water, dust, and fingerprint free with something called a "superhydrophobic glass coating." Let’s break that down. Super-hydro-phobic. This word tells me that the glass coating is very afraid of water. And it is! The Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory developed the transparent coating to go over glass displays. It wicks away water and is resistant to fingerprints and smudges. Water literally bounces off the screen, which you can see in the video above and GIF below. Samsung just exclusively licensed the superhydrophobic coating, so maybe water will be bouncing off our future Galaxy phone screens.

Most phones already come with an oleophobic coating to resist oil and fingerprints. It doesn’t always work that well, but maybe this new coating technology will finally give us spotless phones.
