Apple seems to be rolling out faster wireless charging for the iPhone X and iPhone 8 in the upcoming iOS 11.2 update, according to reports from MacRumors. It confirmed that 7.5W charging is available in the latest 11.2 beta.

Currently, the iPhone X and 8 only support the slowest Qi charging speed of 5W, but Apple promised that the faster 7.5W speed would be coming later on. There was some suspicion that it would have to wait until Apple’s own AirPower mat came out sometime in 2018, but it seems that’s not the case. More good news: the 7.5W speed seems to be available for any Qi charger that supports the higher output — not just on Apple’s two approved pads from Belkin and Mophie.

Apple hasn’t said when to expect a full public release of iOS 11.2, but it’ll probably be out sometime in the next several weeks. Oh, and if you’re looking for recommendations for the best wireless chargers to buy to take advantage of the faster speeds, check out our guide here.
