V-Moda’s updated Crossfade 2 Wireless headphones offer minor but welcome improvements

New, 3 comments

V-Moda’s Crossfade Wireless headphones were the realization of a simple idea — take the company’s most popular Crossfade headphones and cut the cords. Now V-Moda is back with a new version, the Crossfade 2 Wireless, which keep the familiar Crossfade design but add new drivers and ear cushions, along with battery life over the original Crossfade Wireless.

The goal of the new drivers is to improve sound quality, while the improved cushions are said to help block more outside noise and keep your music in — offering a different (and hopefully better) overall sound than the first generation, although obviously any final judgement on that will have to wait until an actual in-person test. The Crossfade 2 Wireless headphones are a little heavier than the original, weighing in at 309g compared to 292g, but V-Moda claims that’s due to the updated model offering a 15 percent larger battery to provide up to 14 hours of playback. Additionally, once the battery dies, V-Moda says that you’ll be able to use them in a wired mode at the same audio quality as the wireless one.

V-Moda is also adding Bluetooth aptX audio to the Crossfade 2 Wireless — but it will only be available on the rose gold model, which costs $350 ($20 more than the standard $330 black-and-white versions).

Overall the Crossfade 2 Wireless headphones are a minor improvement over the originals, with a similarly minor price bump, starting at just $30 more than their first-gen counterparts. But while none of the changes are super exciting, it’s still hard to say no to better sound, more comfortable cushions, and longer battery life.

The V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless headphones are available now.
