Today Acer announced two new 2-in-1 devices that broaden its Switch product lineup. The new top-of-the-line device, the Switch 5, features an integrated fingerprint sensor in the power button, as well as Windows Hello support. But more importantly, at least to Acer, is its fanless “Liquid Loop” cooling system.
The company introduced this technology in the Switch Alpha 12, the original 2-in-1 in the lineup, but now the silent cooling system is expanding to more machines. The Switch 5 also features a 12-inch Full HD (2160x1440) touch display and ships with the Acer Active Stylus. It’ll be available with the seventh-generation Intel Core i7 and i5 processors, too.
The new starting point for the line is the Switch 3, which also features a 12.2-inch Full HD (1920x1200) display. It includes an Acer pen and an adjustable U-shaped kickstand. It runs on Intel Pentium and Intel Celeron processors. It still has those annoying fans, though. Both devices ship with an attachable keyboard, although the Switch 5’s is backlit, as well as 720p Full HD front-facing cameras, a USB-C and a USB Type-A port.
The Switch 5 will cost €1,099 when it ships in June. The Switch 3 will cost €499. They’ll only be available in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) region at first.
