ZTE is releasing a new smartphone through MetroPCS, called the Blade Z Max. It's a fairly standard budget phone, apart from the fact that it features a rear dual camera system, which is a novelty at its price point of $129.
These are the phone's specs:
- Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8940 processor
- 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage with up to 128GB of expandable storage
- 4,080mAh battery
- 16-megapixel and 2-megapixel rear dual camera system; 8-megapixel front-facing camera
- Rear fingerprint sensor
- 6-inch Full HD display
- Android Nougat
- USB-C
One of the dual camera sensors captures an image in full color while the other captures a monochrome image. The phone will only be available in MetroPCS stores. Other brands, like Honor, have also introduced dual-camera smartphones at prices well below the iPhone, but those still cost more than $200.
It's especially nice that ZTE is giving budget devices not only a dual camera system, but also access to USB-C and the latest Android operating system. Of course, dual cameras don't really mean much in the world of photography. Google's Pixel, for example, captures some of the best smartphone images and only has a single camera, with Google's software making up for the lack of another sensor. Just because ZTE gave its phone an extra sensor doesn't mean the photos will look any better, but it at least shows the company is trying to keep up with current smartphone trends.
