Asus has a new gaming monitor out, the ROG Strix XG27VQ, a name that I’m not even going to bother commenting on. In a world where most of these monitors try to be the biggest and best around, the new Strix XG27VQ takes a bit of a different approach, via AnandTech.
At 27 inches, it’s smaller than most of Asus’ curved monitor lineup, which tends to be in the 32-inch and up range. It comes in at a mere 1080p resolution instead of the more pixel dense offerings on the high end of the market. The payoff for those weaker specs, though is the price: the Strix XG27VQ costs $349.99, which puts it on the entry-level side of the gaming monitor market.

That said, you’re still getting a fairly decent gaming monitor. The Strix XG27VQ offers a 144Hz refresh rate along and AMD’s FreeSync standard, has 300 nits of brightness, and supports Asus’ Aura LED lighting system. But the biggest addition is probably Asus’ new Extreme Low Motion Blur (ELMB) feature, which seems to be a version of ULMB (ultra low motion blur) technology that offers smoother video for fast-moving objects.
Oh, and it can project a glowing Asus Republic of Gamers logo onto your desk, in case that’s something you want in life. Ports-wise, you’re looking at DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI 1.4, or a dual-link DVD-D connector to hook up your computer.
The ROG Strix XG27VQ is available for preorder now, with shipping estimated in one to four weeks.
