Xperia XZ1 leak shows Sony sticking with the same, tired phone design

Images of Sony's rumored Xperia XZ1 smartphone leaked today, and we're underwhelmed, to say the least. The device, which we're expecting to be announced on August 31st at IFA in Berlin, features two massive bezels. Generally, it looks like the same design we've seen with Xperia devices for years, which maybe wouldn't have mattered as much if nearly every major phone maker wasn't minimizing their bezels. LG, Samsung, and Essential all introduced phones this year with smaller bezels while Apple and Google are expected to debut their takes this fall.

At least the images suggest that the phone will come in both pink and black versions. If you can't iterate on bezels, you can at least make your phone stand out with funky colors. Although to be fair, Sony has release pink phones before, so that isn't new, either.

We don't have confirmed specs yet, but rumored specs include a 5.2-inch, Full HD display; the Snapdragon 835 processor; and a 19-megapixel, rear-facing camera. Sony is avoiding both the bezel-less and dual camera trend, and I'm not sure how many people will want to stick with an older look in 2017. Good luck, Sony.
