Tag Heuer’s latest Android Wear smartwatch, the $1,200 Connected Modular 41, is Swiss-made and a nice choice if you’re looking for something with a bit more weight and quality than most wearables. The Connected Modular 41 is water resistant up to 50 meters, and features GPS, an NFC sensor for contactless payment (Android Pay), and customizable TAG Heuer dials.
It’s designed for smaller wrists with a watchface diameter of 41mm, and it features a AMOLED 390 x 390 screen with improved brightness. The Connected Modular 41 has several improvements from the larger 45mm version (called the Connected Modular 45), with increased storage capacity of 8GB, and 1GB of RAM.
Tag Heuer says it collaborated with Intel and Google in the development of the watch. There are seven standard models available with customizable straps and lugs. There are nine strap colors available, including new colors of pink, blue, and white leather. If you get bored of the smartwatch face, Tag Heuer says the connected module can be replaced with a three-hand mechanical module, stating that “the connected watch becomes an attractive mechanical watch in just a few clicks.”
Both the Connected Modular 45 and 41 are compatible with Android 4.4 and iOS 9 or later. The watch is $1,200 (£1,000, or €1,100) and is available from Tag Heuer’s online store. That’s still better than some of Tag Heuer’s other smartwatches; there’s one that costs $9,900 and is made of solid rose gold.
