Huawei’s P20 Pro could have one of the best phone colors in years

It seemed like pretty much every detail had leaked about Huawei’s forthcoming P20, P20 Lite, and P20 Pro — but some new images published today by WinFuture’s Roland Quandt reveal something new: the colors they’ll come in. And there are some real surprises among the photos.

First up, just look at these images of the P20 Pro. There’s a gradient!

Okay, sure, maybe I’m overreacting a bit here, but phone colors are so often just incredibly dull — black and white, silver and gray, those same colors in glossy and matte. So anytime a company really does something different, it’s a nice change of pace, like Essential’s bright blue Ocean Depths model. Huawei’s purple and blue P20 Pro seems bound to be one of this year’s highlights.

The new photos also show some of the more interesting color options the standard P20 and the P20 Lite will get. The P20 seems to get something that I will describe as gradientish. This image mostly looks like it has some messed up compression over half of it, but I think it’s meant to show a two-tone pink-and-gold back:

Both the P20 and the P20 Pro will also come in very normal black and blue models as well. The P20 Lite will also get a normal black model, but its blue model will have a very... I want to say... Winamp skin vibe?

It’ll also come in a normal pinkish gold color, without a gradient.

Huawei is expected to announce the new phones later this month, at an event on March 27th. The P20 series will be the successor to the P10 and the company’s first flagship since the tumultuous US launch of the Mate 10 Pro just a month ago. The P20 Pro is supposed to be the highlight of the line, with three cameras on the rear of the phone, supposedly offering up to 5x zoom and 40 megapixel stills.
