Phone Case of the Month is a monthly series in which we live with, and subsequently review, our time with a phone case. Phone cases are one of our only ways to express individuality with our smartphones, so what do our phone case choices say about us?

I’ve found my favorite phone case. I’m done — let’s wrap this series up because this cherry case can’t be topped. I bought it in Flushing, New York at a store where I previously bought a different case. This cherry case feels super cheap — it’s made of pleather with a metal backing stuck to it with cheap glue. There’s a removable key ring that came with a cherry accessory attached. The cherries are made of pom-poms with a pleather leaf. I think the pom-poms might be made of real rabbit fur? It feels real, but I also have no idea. This case cost me $20. I love it!

I love how the cherries always hang outside my back pocket while my phone is safely tucked away; I love how easily I find my phone in a cluttered bag; and I love the look of the cherries. Previous cases I’ve tested were statement pieces that got in the way of actual use. Pom-poms shed confetti, and a stuffed bunny was difficult to hold. This case works as it should with extra flair.

The Cut called cherries “the trendiest fruit,” and I do feel cool with this case. I thought I’d make it through a month with the pom-poms remaining in perfect condition, but just last week, I accidentally set them in a mysterious liquid on top of a bar. Now one of the balls is sticky and gross. I’m sad about it, but refuse to give up the case.

I might never get rid of it, honestly! At least until cherries aren’t trendy anymore and I need a different pom-pom fruit.
