We’re still a few weeks out from Google’s upcoming Pixel 3 event, but there’s still time for a few more leaks. Today’s latest tidbit? A press render of the rumored Pixel Stand wireless charger that was spotted last week in an animation in the Google app, via MySmartPrice.
As seen in MySmartPrice’s photo, the stand seems to be powered by USB-C. Assuming the voltage and amperage ratings on the bottom are accurate, the Pixel Stand would offer up to 18W of power, which is more than enough for wireless fast charging. There’s a chance that the image is simply a mock-up based on last week’s leak, but hopefully it’s real. Between support for USB-C, the future-proofed fast charging, and the rather fetching orange accents, the Pixel Stand looks like it could be a really great wireless charger (assuming the price is right).
The earlier leak seemed to indicate that Google will be adding some software features to go with the dock, like displaying photos as an ad hoc picture frame, offering expanded notifications, and allowing users to use Google Assistant without having to unlock your phone — almost like a miniature Google Home.
We’ll likely find out more when Google actually announces the Pixel stand at its event on October 9th (or when the next batch of photos leak, whichever comes first).
