Sony’s PlayStation Classic mini console is $39.99 at Walmart for a limited time. This is $60 off the price at which it debuted in November, though you can usually find the console for a little over $50. Similar in approach to Nintendo’s popular NES Classic and SNES Classic, the PlayStation Classic includes a single wired controller and comes with 20 preinstalled games from the PS1 era, including Metal Gear Solid, Tekken 3, Twisted Metal, and Final Fantasy VII.
There are a handful of reasons why it’s gotten so cheap in so little time. Due to a rather weak game selection (where are UmJammer Lammy, Resident Evil 2, or Legend of Dragoon?) and questionable emulation choices (pushing 50Hz PAL format for some games), it hasn’t been as well-received, so it isn’t as high in demand as Nintendo’s retro consoles. But if you’re a PlayStation fan, there’s certainly fun to be had. If you’re after a second controller, this $20 8BitDo Bluetooth adapter can let you sync your DualShock 4 to play on the PlayStation Classic.
