The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray is very narrow and very pretty, but not really very powerful. As you can see, it's 2.1 inches wide by 4.4 inches tall, it feels more like a thin remote than a phone in the hand. Crammed in that skinny form factor is a 3.3-inch, 854 x 480 WVGA screen which looks pretty good, even at wide viewing angles. It's running Android 2.3.4 with Sony Ericsson's relatively lightweight customizations on top. Responsiveness was good enough for a device with a 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM, which is to say it could have been better but we'll hold off judgment until we see a device not running pre-production software. Typing was exactly what you'd expect on a device this narrow: painful in portrait, fine in landscape.

Sony Ericsson is going to produce it in black, gold, pink, and white -- but where it will be sold, when, and at what price isn't yet known. More photos and a video of the Xperia Ray can be found after the break
.
