White House teases 'the end of all selfies' after Samsung stunt

The White House is not happy about David Ortiz's Samsung selfie, but it hasn't lost its sense of humor. "Perhaps maybe this will be the end of all selfies," senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer joked on Sunday. The White House has a strict policy against using the president's likeness for profit, and reportedly warned Samsung about the policy in advance, but it's still unclear what repercussions the company might face over the ill-fated tweet. "We’ve had conversations with Samsung about this and expressed our concerns," White House adviser Dan Pfeiffer told reporters. "We’ve left that conversation between the lawyers." The White House policy on Snapchats, however, probably hasn't yet been submitted for legal review.

What a selfish move by Ortiz.

I see what you did there.

selfi(e)-ish => selfish

Samsung stunt? What? Didn’t Ortiz take the picture?

Samsung did repost/sponsor the tweet, as well as providing him the phone. There may be a case there… somewhere.

And samsung has hired Ortiz as a social media insider.

There may be a case there…

there is one in apple vs samsung and after this, samsung will loose again.

hired overpaid Ortiz as a social media insider anything else except insider

lews*

Your welcome

Lews?

Lose* and you’re* welcome!

not laws. lews…

I’m guessing the WH should’ve assumed it’d be used for promotional purposes (since that’s the only reason celebrities and athletes take selfies for).

Ortiz’ selfie crossed the line from self-promotion into just promotion. Outrageous.

That’s not a distinction that’s in the book, if there is one at all.

oldmanhorton beat me to it.

But everyone making it out to seem this entire thing was planned…. I don’t understand the distaste w Samsung endorsements……agent celebrities paid for endorsements? Cola Pepsi food chains clothing and apparel? What’s the difference tho? Because a shirt can’t take a picture or because the company in question is Samsung?

It’s because of who it is. Generally political figures images are not to be used for commercial purposes when they are in office especially figures like the president. It’s bad form at best, might even have legal repercussions.

Everyone is making this out to seem like it was planned because it was planned.

its obama tryin to be cute when so many other websites even videoz.com etc have put his likeness into there films and havent been reprimanded about it.

Samsung sent him there.

Ortiz recently signed an endorsement deal with Samsung to be its “MLB social media insider.” He’s getting paid to post social media, that Samsung can use as promotional material. Anything he does on social media is now owned by Samsung. He knew this, Samsung knew this, which is why they re-tweeted it.

Ortiz is on Samsung’s payroll and Samsung paid Twitter for a Promoted Tweet, aka an ad.

Well, the White House f’d Samsung over the sales ban of some iDevices, so this move was definitely justified..

That wouldn’t make it justified, it would make it childish.
