Another Game of Thrones episode has leaked online

An unaired episode of Game of Thrones has appeared on the internet this morning. Episode 6, due to be aired on Sunday, appeared first on file-sharing sites and a Reddit post. Reddit users spotted that the episode was accidentally aired by HBO Nordic in Spain for an hour before it was removed. The episode 6 appearance follows a similar leak of episode 4 around two weeks ago.

The previous leak was related to a distribution partner in India, and HBO has confirmed to The Verge that the company accidentally posted it on its own platforms. “We have learned that the upcoming episode of Game of Thrones was accidentally posted for a brief time on the HBO Nordic and HBO España platforms,” says a HBO spokesperson. “The error appears to have originated with a third-party vendor and the episode was removed as soon as it was recognized. This is not connected to the recent cyber incident at HBO in the US.”

HBO was subject to a security breach last month, allowing hackers to reportedly obtain 1.5 terabytes of stolen data from the company’s US servers. This latest leak is not related to the security issues, and hackers have so far only published published script outlines on the web, rather than full episodes.

HBO has struggled multiple times with Game of Thrones leaks in the past. The first four episodes of season 5 leaked online, thanks to advance screeners that are sent out to members of the press. A HBO subsidiary also released a season 6 episode a day early. HBO decided to scrap screeners for season 7, but that hasn’t prevented two major leaks this season.

Update August 16th, 8:45AM ET: HBO comment added to article.

This episode will blow your mind. The video is watch-able. The sound is bad. Shocking how its leaking though.

There’s a 1.92 GB version going around in torrents with decent audio.

1080p and good audio is around already

Worst part is that it is a HD quality leak. Well at least the video.. Teleport machines aka dragons working overtime this season.

Yea, I wouldn’t have watched otherwise but when it’s a HD leak the equation shifts…

Episode leaks. Game of Thrones ratings go up. At this point I think they’re doing it on purpose /s

If ratings are going up, how are less people subscribing to HBO? Is this some sort of sorcery I’m currently unaware of?

At first with these leaks I refused to watch them and waited until Sunday. But then u ended up rewatcjing episodes over multiple times anyway. So… When I get home from work today I’ll catch this and the relive it again Sunday

All I want is for the internet not to spoil the shit out of it until official premiere. I’m sure sites like Verge won’t, but meme pages…not so sure.

Yeah, you better not browse the homepage on sites like 9gag if you want to avoid spoilers. Even Facebook and twitter can be dangerous.

As someone who can’t always watch the episodes as they come out on Sundays, I even try to avoid the (multiple) headlines on The Verge every monday morning.

It just sucks that I have to do that not for a few hours, but for freaking days now.

I avoid the Internet in general on Monday if I am behind a day. LOL.

True that, regarding Facebook and Twitter. Scrolling through the news feed on Facebook a few weeks back gave away who died next in Power on Starz.

There are already gifs in the comments to the Verge’s Twitter post regarding this that already spoiled it the entire episode in one gif.

I don’t understand why some people would rather watch a leak and then have to wait longer for the following episode than just watch it when it airs? not to mention questionable quality. I also pay for all my subscriptions too, and I’m getting old enough now that I can’t be bothered to torrent at the best of times.

I’m getting old enough now that I can’t be bothered to torrent at the best of times.

Not everyone is as old as you.

oooh is that how the internet works?

my point still stands, I don’t know why people would want to watch a leaked episode. I also don’t understand people lining up for iPhones and game consoles on release day either but that’s not an age thing.

my boss at work who is twice my age loves watching screener copies of movies just so he can say he’s seen it before anyone else. his business is doing really well but he won’t pay to see a movie or subscription to netflix.

I guess I just wonder what that’s like.

We are all hoping the leaking of episode 7 isn’t that far behind!

It’s time for Canada to step up and do something foolish. The Spaniards have proven themselves incompetent in trying to upload a digital file to the internet…it only took until about 12am the next day for the file to post. Mind you, it finished broadcasting at ~6 a.m. Almost 18 hrs…18 hrs!!
