Kingdom Hearts III gets January 2019 release date

Kingdom Hearts III finally has a concrete release date — but it’s a little later than expected. The long-anticipated third installment to the Final Fantasy / Disney crossover is now slated to hit players hands on January 29th, 2019 for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Director Tetsuya Nomura announced the news at the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra World Tour, and later apologized to fans on Twitter for the delay. “I’m sorry that we’re asking for a little more time than initially planned,” he said, and promised more information and “a few trailers at E3.”

It’s been a long road to release for Kingdom Hearts III, which was first announced five years ago at E3 2013. Back in 2017, Square Enix finally had announced a vague “2018” window for the final release, but unfortunately, it looks like it’ll be missing that promise by just a couple of weeks. But fans have been waiting over 13 years since Kingdom Hearts 2 to find out how Sora’s story will end, so an extra couple of days to make the game as good as it can seem short by comparison.

Kingdom Hearts III will release on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on January 29th, 2019.

I’d rather have a finished product over trying to meet a deadline they couldn’t have met. Happy to know it’s almost here.

Not crazy excited for KH3 but I know FF7 development probably won’t proceee until this is out, so good to hear. 13 years though? Definitely feel for KH fans on this one.

From the main series, but there’s been plenty of side quests (some more core to the story than most side quests) so really the last major story was 2012 with dream drop distance. Last side quest was in 2017 with "a fragmentary passage."

Add to that the fact that many players didn’t have a chance to play the games on the Nintendo or Sony handhelds and you have the remasters which kept fans busy.

Too be honest I was expecting them to delay KH3 as a launch title for the PS5. They released the teaser trailer waaaay too early for this game.
