Star Wars Battlefront II updates will let players fight in the Clone Wars

At E3 today, Dice revealed several big updates to Star Wars Battlefront II. Players will be able to play during the Clone Wars era, and the game will introduce several new playable characters, including Anakin Skywalker, Count Dooku, General Grievous, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. There’s no release date yet for the DLC.

While Battlefront II has allowed you to play as a clone trooper, it’s largely focused on the latest series of films: The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and Rogue One. This is the first time that Battlefront II players will be able to play as characters from the prequel era or visit the planet Geonosis, where the Clone Wars began in Attack of the Clones. Design director Dennis Brannvall says that it’ll also include “the largest level we’ve ever built for Battlefront.”

In addition to the Clone Wars era, EA announced that it will introduce new content to its Han Solo season next week, including a new squad system and a new starfighter mode, as well as new environments on Kessel. It will also bring back the Extraction game mode. These updates will be released on June 12th.

During its presentation, EA acknowledged it had a “rough start,” after a heated controversy over loot boxes last November, prompting it to backtrack and overhaul its progression system.

In addition to the updates with Battlefront 2, Titanfall developer Respawn teased its own Star Wars game, which will be set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. It’ll hit stores next year and will be titled Jedi: Fallen Order.

Too little, too late.

The clone wars are already featured in BFII??
Or did I dream about mowing down clone troopers, watching them bleed out of their striped helmets while screaming "roger roger" at the top of my speech module?

I think that was the original couple of Battlefront games — I remember mowing down droids on Kamino.

I’m definitely talking about the EA one. I think they just mean they’re adding more to it. The article makes it sound like there is currently zero clone wars content in the game

More post launch support is better than less (or none)

Battlefront 2 has had geonosis for like 13 ye…… OH.

That said, The EA Battlefront 2 dumpster fire definitely has Prequel era Droid and Clone armies in it….

So they added a map.

They also added two remastered maps from the previous game, plus a new map from Solo that’s coming in a few days. Then the Genesis update will come within the next three months or so, with at least one more map and four heroes, plus a conquest-style game mode. All this comes after they totally overhauled the progression system, which finally feels really satisfying to level up in. They’ve made microtransactions cosmetic only, and everything is also available to earn through gameplay.

I’ve been on EA’s ass for a while about the treatment of this game. But in the past two months or so, I really do have to say that I’m happy that EA isn’t abandoning it when they have the opportunity to, and I’m glad the devs at DICE are so passionate about the game and want to continue support.

From someone who actually plays Battlefront II, there are a few mistakes in this article. For one, there is no Rogue One content in the game, save for about a minute of a Force Vision in the campaign. Second, there are already three large scale clone wars ground maps in the game, using armies from that era, plus two more smaller clone wars era maps, as well as two Clone Wars Starfighter Assault maps. However, compared to other Star Wars eras, there is much less content based around the Clone Wars, and this coming update will add a good deal of needed Clone Wars content.

However, the arguably bigger news which is totally absent from this article is that the game will be getting a roadmap and improved communication, so players can know what content to expect and when, while providing feedback for the devs.
