Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp were down for more than two hours

Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp were all experiencing issues this morning for users worldwide. Facebook and Instagram were both inaccessible, with news feeds refusing to refresh and the main Facebook.com domain unavailable for more than two hours. WhatsApp messages were also unable to be sent or received, and users of Facebook’s main services (Facebook owns Instagram and WhatsApp) headed to Twitter to share that they were having issues. Messenger, Facebook’s chat service, was also down for more than two hours.

The outages appear to have started at around 6:30AM ET this morning, and some locations were more widely affected than others. “Earlier today, some people may have experienced trouble connecting to the family of apps,” says a Facebook spokesperson in a statement to The Verge. “The issue has since been resolved; we’re sorry for any inconvenience.” Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp all started to come back online at around 9AM ET this morning.

Facebook’s issues come just a month after Facebook experienced its worst outage ever. Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram were all inaccessible for hours last month, and it wasn’t until over 24 hours later that Facebook finally gave the all clear. Facebook blamed a “server configuration change,” and apologized for the outages.

Update April 14th 9:45AM ET: Article updated with latest Facebook statement, and to confirm services are back online.

Facebook, DOWN? Maybe it should stay down. It won’t, of course. It will be up and running again. But more and more often I wish I had never started a Facebook account of my own. Social media is changing humanity for the worse.

Not like society was a shining beacon even a few decades ago. Humanity already sucked imo, now it’s just sucking differently, and will again in a whole other way in 20 years.

Very true. What sucks the most though here is that we have all our data and privacy in the hands of Zucc and he is not even trying to respect it and the worst part, over 1 billion people are using Facebook and there’s no stopping them now.

and will again in a whole other way in 20 years.

I deleted the app. Honestly like it this way, I’ll just log in every now and then when I’m bored. And when I do I usually see that I’m not missing anything valuable.

Did that for a year or so, decided I might as well throw it out of the door for good.

Now is the time! You can do it!

I’ll probably keep it. I’m hoping to move out of the country in the next five or so years. Facebook would be an easy way to check in on family, as I have family members who change their numbers like yearly, which is annoying.

Facebook will be dead in 5 years..

Messenger too, is down.

Can’t make calls, can’t upload stories, can’t send messages in WhatsApp

Always at the worst time for me. I don’t care about Facebook but I need WhatsApp.

This is a small sliver of why anti-trust companies need to be broken up.

Working fine in Singapore

FB and Insta working fine in Japan.

Didn’t you know? America "is" the world

Up in the UK by the way…

Very edgy comment there. And it was down here (London) too.

It must have been down here (UK) as i got a few WhatsApp / Facebook messages sent hours ago at the same time. Although to be honest i didn’t even notice.

Instagram very sluggish in Seoul.

looks like its back online.

What will people do? They will have to cope with life on their own! Say it ain’t so!

All 4 are working fine here in Israel without any outage. I’ve used Facebook for the past couple hours without a hitch.

All three were down most of the morning here in Spain, but appear to be back up again.

Their sites are working for me. This is much ado about nothing.

And? They didn’t work for plenty of other people.

Oh no! Whatever will the world do? You know you have a social media addiction when you get bent out of shape over these platforms being down for a few hours. Good luck people.
