Amazon adds music alarms to Alexa

Amazon announced today that Alexa has been updated to include support for music alarms. So instead of just asking Alexa to set an alarm for you, you’ll be able to request specific songs, playlists, artists, or genres to get you out of bed in the morning.

The new feature supports a variety of music services to use as alarm tones, including Amazon Music, Spotify, Pandora, TuneIn, SiriusXM, and iHeartRadio. You’ll be able to request songs in the same way that you can for regular playback, meaning that requests as specific as “Alexa, wake me up at 7AM to Beyoncé,” or as vague as “Alexa, wake me up to ’80s music at 8AM” will all work.

The new music alarm feature should be available today on Amazon Echos or any Alexa device.

This is the best thing.

FINALLY!
Now, still missing multi-room support for spotify. And it would be nice that my hue lights would all be listed under the routine menu, instead of like… half of them

My biggest issue with multi-room audio is that each device can only be in one Audio Group. As soon as I created my "everywhere" group, I couldn’t make groups for "upstairs" and "downstairs". I feel "everywhere" should just be a standard that’s built in…

Weird. GH has the ability to put devices in more than one group, but weirdly no ability to alter alarms. Oh for a mature market for these things. I love ’em, but any more weird obelisks around my house and it will look like a 2001 convention.

Also… available in routines?

"Alexa, wake me up every day at 6am to I Got You Babe by Sonny and Cher"

"Just put your little hand in mine!"

Does the new alarm have a fail safe that defaults to a beep-beep or chime alarm if the Echo goes offline before your alarm is supposed to ring?

Does it even trigger if it’s offline?

Only after trying for like five solid minutes

Hmm, wonder if I can say ‘Alexa play Christmas music every December 25th’

I have an android app that lets me select a massive playlist, and gently increase from a low volume. Then I get up in the morning and do a bit of exercise while it’s still playing before shutting it off. It’s a nice thing!

I wish I could have it start the flash briefing instead. I’d love to wake up to a key movie exposition moment.

Finally!
Does this work? "Alexa, wake me up every weekday at 6am to KFI Radio" (KFI is on iHeart)?

Not yet. New Amazon Fire pad says feature not available.
