Samsung Galaxy Book tablet teased by new Windows 10 app

Samsung appears to be readying a new Windows 10 tablet. While recent leaks have suggested we’ll see a successor to the Windows-powered Galaxy TabPro, Samsung released a “Book Settings” app in the Windows Store at the weekend which includes references to a separate unannounced Samsung Galaxy Book. The app is designed to provide additional settings for a stylus, the AMOLED display, the ability to add a pattern unlock (like Android), and a battery life extender.

MSPoweruser spotted the Windows 10 app, and notes that Samsung also holds a 2012 trademark for Galaxy Book that covers smartphones and tablets. The presence of a stylus and the book branding could indicate this particular Windows 10 device is more of a regular tablet than the company’s Surface-like TabPro convertible. Samsung is holding a press event at Mobile World Congress next Sunday, and we’re expecting to hear more about the company’s Galaxy plans for 2017.

Galaxy doesn’t mean android anymore…

And that’s good.

Wow an AMOLED windows device, will be nice.

Probably a phablet. Makes sense they would experiment to see if there is enough WP demand out there since supply competition here is present zilch, almost.

"Galaxy Book" sounds more like a Surface Book clone to me.

Gimme a foldable double display tablet (Courier!). C’mon Sammy, you can do it!

Count me in

windows will be making a huge comeback this year

Comeback from what? "Desktop" Windows is fine and will continue to be fine. Phone Windows is dead and will stay dead (I was going to say "until there’s amazing new hardware", but I think that ship has sailed.)

But what about Desktop Windows with phone and mobile capabilities? Some type of transforming tablet that can extend its screen size while remaining portable is really their only and last shot at mobile.

Why would "the presence of a stylus and the book branding … indicate this particular Windows 10 device is more of a regular tablet"?

Surface Book, anyone?

If it’s a Surface Book competitor with an AMOLED display, I’ll certainly be intrigued.

Let’s just hope it is S-Pen based vs C-pen based, which their last windows tablet came with.

"Pattern log-in"? So Microsoft will allow a third party security system in Windows? That does not sound as a good idea to have Samsung running your security department, so to speak. Shouldn’t that instead be a generic feature in Windows?

I bought my first and last Android tablet last year. Did you know what the current build of Android prevents the use of micro SD storage? Yes. Android devices will recognize the micro SD card but Alphabet has remove the write ability. So if you buy an Android device, you are limited to the amount of internal storage it has regardless if it has a micro SD slot. I am going back to buying a Windows tablet and run Bluestacks on it.
