The Echo Show is thick. It's shaped like a rear-projection TV, except its screen is an LCD. Since almost every other gadget on the market has a moral duty to be thin, I was curious what Amazon was going to use all that space for. And, lucky for me, iFixit is on the scene with a detailed teardown.

It turns out, the Echo Show is a real electricity monster. Look at this power supply board! It's basically a 21-watt amplifier, which is a lot more power than you get in the average Bluetooth speaker. This explains why in our review we found the Show so much better on sound than the Echo and Google Home, but still not as good as the Sonos Play:1, which has even better audio and speaker internals.

The other big mystery about the Echo Show was whether or not it was using repurposed 7-inch Fire Tablet screens. iFixit found the display panel in the Show is a different model than they've seen in the tablets, so that dream is over.

Oh, and if you were wondering about specs, the Echo Show has an Atom x5-Z8350 chip, with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of embedded flash memory. For wireless there's 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1.
