Only the best deals on Verge-approved gadgets get the Verge Deals stamp of approval, so if you're looking for a deal on your next gadget or gift from major retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and more, this is the place to be.

Google really wants you to buy Cyberpunk 2077 on Stadia — so much, in fact, that it’s giving away a Stadia Premiere kit to each person who preorders (or who has already preordered) the game on Stadia or buys it after launch until December 17th. The promotion runs “until supplies last,” though Google declined to say how many units it will be giving out.

The hardware bundle that usually costs $100 includes a white Stadia controller, a Chromecast Ultra, and, for new users, a one-month trial subscription to Stadia’s Pro-tier service. Stadia Pro includes 4K streaming and a growing collection of free games similar to Sony’s PlayStation Plus and Microsoft’s Xbox Live Gold subscriptions.

To redeem the deal, you’ll need a Stadia account, though you don’t need to be a paid subscriber. Then, head to Cyberpunk 2077’s product page and purchase the game. If you have a Stadia Pro subscription, you can save $10 on the game if you haven’t already used that promo.

For preorders, you’ll receive an email containing a code to redeem your free Premiere kit within a week of the game’s launch, so keep a lookout for that. If you buy the game post-launch, you should get an email containing a code if Google still has a supply of the free kits available.

Google says that your kit will take several weeks to ship, which means you probably won’t have it in hand when Cyberpunk 2077 actually launches. Also, it says your shipment may or may not arrive prior to the holidays. Thankfully, there are other ways to play Stadia with controllers you might already own, including on your phone or through your PC’s Chrome browser. So just because your complimentary hardware won’t arrive for a while doesn’t mean you can’t play the game on launch day.

While you wait, here’s a brand-new trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 that just released today:

With all the free kits they are giving out seems they are having a hard time getting people onto stadia. Which is no big surprise.

The drawbacks of input lag ect might be able to be overlooked in a subscription service which gets you access to lots of games but when you still have to buy a full priced game the pill is harder to swallow. Especially as there seems to be no demos for games eg. play 1 hour of cyberpunk for free to see how it feels via stadia.

oh they definitely dont have problem getting people on stadia.
that stadia subreddit has increased many fold with post about new users trying stadia . its getting annoying now with 100’s of post every day with new users

I don’t think reddit is the right metric to go by…

What do you mean? Judging by Reddit we now have president-elect Trump who overthrew the 45th president Sanders. /s

yeah reddit is not the full metrics its probably just a tiny piece of it. if reddit a tiny piece of the whole pie see a huge surge then the whole pie would be huge

There are some game demos, but Stadia’s refund policy is basically a 2 hour demo over 14 days.

Then again, Steam also has the same refund policy.

You can play it 2 hours and get a refund if you don’t like it. Also, you do not have to be a Pro subscriber. You can buy the game just like you do on any other console without paying any monthly fees.

The problem is that the game you paid $60 or more for relies on a cloud service to function, indefinitely. It isn’t hard to imagine building up a library worth hundreds of dollars in a couple of years and being out of luck when Google introduces a mandatory service fee, degrades quality, updates their terms, deprecates hardware or, you know, shuts the whole thing down.

A subscription service like Xbox Game Pass is a much more natural fit for this model.

These Stadia Premiere Editions come with the old, non-Google TV Chromecast Ultra included in them which will surely be phased out within a few months into the New Year when the new, higher-performing Chromecast with Google TV is updated to work with Stadia, so it’s less surprising really.

Considering these are the older Chromecasts it seems more like a way to clear inventory.

I find it super weird that they’re giving away so many of these bundles (through this and YouTube Premium), but they aren’t bundling it with the new Chromecast with Google TV. I guess they just had an overabundance of Chromecasts?

Probably doing this so they can upgrade the kit when stocks run low enough

Also doesn’t help that there won’t be a Google TV/Android TV Stadia client until early 2021.

My guess is that’s the exact reason they are giving away all the current bundles. Once Stadia is on the GoogleTV, there is literally no reason to continue production for the Chromecast Ultra; it costs more and does less.

I don’t think they’re actually producing any more Chromecast Ultras. I think they just have a lot of unsold stock lying around.

Seems like Google’s various divisions aren’t talking to each other or coordinating. There’s no overarching strategy here.

Isn’t that the case on everything involving Google that isn’t related to search or advertising?

Fair.

I see it the opposite way. Looks to me like they will be refreshing the bundle and likely killing off production of the Ultra.

They just launched a new streaming device… Which doesn’t support their first-party streaming service. They already killed off the production of the Ultra when that happened.

Google says that your kit will take several weeks to ship, which means you probably won’t have it in hand when Cyberpunk 2077 actually launches.

Then what’s the point?

yeah its like getting free xbox one for buying a cp2077 game but instead the xbox one comes several weeks later. if they had a way to play without the console(ccu) then that would have been great. oh wait

I get it. You don’t need the Chromecast or the Stadia Controller to use Stadia. But what if you don’t have a controller or mouse to at least use Stadia with a laptop or phone?

You can use any console controller as well. If you are buying this game, there is about a 99% likelihood you own at least another console or a mouse/keyboard.
