Kanye West is not in fact losing millions of followers for tweeting his love of Donald Trump

If you’ve been following the philosophical, stream-of-consciousness ramblings of Kanye West on Twitter lately, you may have been shocked — or maybe not at all shocked — to see him tweet effusive praise of President Donald Trump, bringing full circle the rapper’s conversion to alt-right internet troll. What you may not know is that there’s a rumor going around that the move cost Kanye millions of Twitter followers.

That rumor is false.

A Twitter spokesperson confirmed to The Verge that Kanye remains at around 27 million Twitter followers, roughly the same amount he had before he began tweeting things like, “We are both dragon energy,” and, “He is my brother,” referring to the 71-year-old Republican president of the United States. “We can confirm that Kanye’s follower count is currently at approximately 27M followers. Any fluctuation that people might be seeing is an inconsistency and should be resolved soon,” the statement reads.

Of course, that Kanye isn’t bleeding support for saying he loves Trump doesn’t make the situation any less bizarre. We know Kanye has been a not-so-subtle fan of Trump since he said he would have voted for the man, if he had voted at all, back in November 2016. The two also met in person to “discuss multicultural issues” in August of last year; see photo above.

But Kanye’s new series of tweets have pretty much everyone scratching their heads, including Kanye’s wife Kim Kardashian West, who apparently called her husband to get clarity on his “love” for Trump. For a man who once boldly and off-script said on live television that former Republican president George W. Bush “doesn’t care about black people,” it’s quite the ideological shift:

To his credit, Trump responded in kind to bank on the social media moment:

I can’t rock with him any more. I just can’t.

This is the man that said George Bush doesn’t care about black people, but he’s co-signing a person like Trump?

I guess I expected too much from him.

You did.

He doesn’t care who he offends, or disrespects. He just wants you to buy his shit (music, product, etc).

That’s why he and Kim are so great together – unashamed narcissists,

and there are many easily led people out there who will fall for it and throw money at them…

That’s right. Narcissists (people with Narcissistic Personality Disorder or NPD, they’re similar to sociopaths (ASPD) but have a twist where they DO feel emotions biologically but only in relation to themselves), like Trump (and maybe Kanye, I’m just being conservative because I don’t know enough about that dude, I’ve seen enough in the case of Trump), simply cannot be trusted to EVER be genuine about ANYTHING they actually say (just like sociopaths – e.g. Milo Yiannopoulos, who is obviously non-genuine in much of the rhetoric bullshit he says, once you look at enough of it), except in the case of a narcissist they may be genuine in some of the deluded grandiosity they say about themselves.

I prefer not to give undue attention to these people, because that is a part of their very anti-social goals, but it’s also interesting to study them. So for my own sake I take a limited interest like this every now and then.

How in the world is Kanye encouraging independent thought and saying "I don’t agree with everything Trump does" him co-signing Trump???

Your kind of comment is exactly what he is speaking out against. People are complex. They don’t fit into perfect little boxes. We don’t have to fall in line with everything one person or one political party says. It’s okay to be different and think for yourself and to agree and disagree with people on both sides of the aisle. Leave the political parties behind and you will find that society is far less divided on most issues than you would think.

I agree with though. Reason everyone is dropping is because 45s thoughts now have consequential actions. And more for people that look like him than not. No one has a problem with free thought, until that thought is with the intention of oppression.

Thank you. That’s a perfectly reasonable and thoughtful reaction.

The scary thing about this whole situation is the temptation to attack Kanye the person instead of Kanye’s ideas. We, as a society, have to stop the name-calling and get back to rational debates about ideas and solutions to problems. We have to stop attacking the messengers and get back to discussing the messages.

For example, 99.99% of people would like to solve the issue of poverty in America, but we aren’t allowed to discuss the merits of different solutions without someone yelling "racism" and turning it into an argument about people instead of ideas. It’s sad, and so unproductive.

This more than political party. This has to do with Trump the person. He’s a vile, racist, ignorant piece of shit who doesn’t care who he steps on to get what he wants. But most of what I said describes Kanye so it is what it is.

That free thought shit he talking about is just another one of his manic rants he goes on and I’m tired of it.

it is a free country.u can believe what u want .
but u cant impose ur feelings over others.
ppl have freedom of association

Trump isn’t bad and i really like how Trump handles his things like normal people rather then all this political correctness.

Trump isn’t bad

Let me stop you right there.

Yeah you can leave now

You can’t be anymore unique without supporting Trump, Kanye. Personally, I don’t care because I know he isn’t being genuine. ¯\(ツ)

that’s awfully convenient though. anything problematic he says / does gets justified because he doesn’t really mean it or it’s just a provocation.

New album must be coming out.

That would be correct.

Two of those actually

He literally admitted to voting for Trump in 2016 why are we surprised that a rich billionaire elitist likes another rich billionaire elitist?

Billionaire he is not

Neither one is, arguably.

Everyone on the planet should call him broke until he releases his tax returns to prove otherwise.

yeah hes just a broke racist reality TV start elected by a bunch of broke racists

I don’t get why democrats don’t try to drive that point home more loudly. They should be shouting it from the rooftops.

dragon energy

In Western mythology, dragons are a stand-in for the Devil himself, the source of all falsehoods and temptation, and a dragon is said in the Book of Revelation to give the Antichrist his power.

Yep, sounds about right.

And in Asian culture, dragons are considered sacred. The emperor of China is believed to have descended from dragons.

I guess it really depends on which you subscribe to.

A thought experiment: Which culture would a person who believes in Making America Great Again subscribe to? The culture of the country that all the manufacturing jobs are running to?
