Sigma's DP1 Merrill compact will be available mid-September for $999. Announced at the same time as the DP2 Merrill, the DP1 has a shorter, 28-millimeter-equivalent lens.
We got a look at Sigma's DP2 Merrill fixed focal length compact. The new camera features a 15.3-megapixel Foveon X3 sensor and a fixed-length 30mm (45mm equivalent) f2.8 lens.
The SD1's price has been dropped by over 50 percent to $3,300 due to "new efficiencies in the camera's production." The camera has also been renamed the SD1 Merrill in honor of the co-creator of the Foveon X3 sensor, Richard Merrill.
Lens manufacturers Tamron and Kenko Tokina, and pro video equipment producer Astrodesign have joined the Micro-Four Thirds consortium.
