At a pre-CES briefing in Taipei, Asus confirmed that a Windows 8 ARM-based tablet will be released before the end of the year. The 3G version of the Transformer Prime got handed a March release date, and will feature an upgraded GPS module in the wake of issues with the Wi-Fi model.
Anandtech has posted a teardown of the Asus Transformer Prime, and given insight into what is causing the GPS issue. The aluminum build of the tablet appears to be at the root of its connectivity issues.
The latest firmware update for the Transformer Prime has already been rooted by members of TeamAndIRC, though they aren't releasing it to the public until after the tablet is updated to Android 4.0.
Asus just announced that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is coming to the Eee Pad Transformer Prime starting on January 12th. The company also announced a bootloader unlocking tool in response to complaints and also noted that the GPS lock-on issues plaguing the tablet were due to its metallic body.
Another firmware update was released for the Asus Transformer Prime that attempts to fix the documented GPS lock-on issues as well as improving touch response and better camera focusing.
Asus has pulled a mention of GPS from its Transformer Prime specifications page, after users at the XDA-developers forum cited issues locking onto satellites with the unit. The Transformer Prime also recently received an OTA update to HTK75.US_epad-220.127.116.11-20111202, but that software doesn't fix the issue.
The Asus Transformer Prime is now shipping from Amazon and TigerDirect Canada to those who pre-ordered, while some reports have come in saying that Best Buy has delayed its pre-orders of the tablet by one to two weeks.
Asus has just informed us that the Eee Pad Transformer Prime, its latest and arguably Android's best tablet to date, will be going up for pre-order in the UK starting today. Currys, HMV, PC World, Carphone Warehouse, Ebuyer, and even Tesco.com will be ready to take your order in exchange for £499.
Asus Italy announced that the company's Transformer Prime tablet will be delayed until the end of January 2012 in that country. The 3G model will not be available in Italy, and the Transformer Prime will be pre-installed with Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich when it arrives in stores, the company said.
A Phandroid reader received received a statement from NCIX, a Canadian retailer, that the Transformer Prime wouldn't be available this year due to some Wi-Fi issues. We reached out to Asus about this supposed delay.

The Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime will be available in the US online beginning on December 12th and December 19th for brick-and-mortar stores. Pricing will be $499 for the 32GB TF201 and $599 for the 64GB version, with an extra $149 on top if you're interested in the keyboard dock. Curious

The Transformer Prime is available for pre-order on CDW, Amazon, and various other retailers in the US and Canada, indicating that a release date could be coming soon.
The Acer A510 and Acer A511 tablets have been revealed by support documents posted to the company's official website. Both will have Nvidia's Tegra 3 processor inside, 1280 x 800 resolution, and Android as the OS. The only difference is that the A511 will come with 3G connectivity.
