Nintendo 64

The Nintendo 64 wasn't short on innovation when it was released, introducing 64-bit gaming to the living room and adding the now ubiquitous analog stick to its controller. Popular accessories such as the Controller Pak (memory card) and the Rumble Pak (force feedback) could be attached via the controller's rear port, and the system gained an optional hardware boost when the Expansion Pak was introduced in 1999, doubling RAM from 4 to 8 MB. The N64 would ultimately serve as the final mainstream home console to utilize cartridge-based media, as optical discs became the standard following development constraints and the retail success of Sony's PlayStation.
