Sunday night at the 75th annual Golden Globes, something significant happened. Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel took home the award for Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy, while Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale won for Best Series, Drama. It was the first time streaming services won both the top television categories at the show, but the roll didn’t stop there. Stars Rachel Brosnahan and Elisabeth Moss both won for their lead performances in the two shows, and Aziz Ansari won the Golden Globe for Best Performance in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy for his work on Netflix’s Master of None.

By the time host Seth Meyers mercifully announced that the Golden Globes had come to an end, streaming services had won five of the 11...

Against all odds, the 2018 Golden Globes ceremony had a little bit of bite

In the weeks leading up to last night’s Golden Globes, the organized “protest” planned by the actors and creatives set to attend the ceremony seemed halfhearted at best, and at worst, downright stupid. More than 700,000 female farmworkers instigated a laudable, coordinated campaign called Time’s Up to express their solidarity with the women of Hollywood, following scores of revelations of harassment and abuse by some of the industry’s most powerful players. And in response, 300 celebrities who planned to attend the awards said they would wear black, and also, they would wear pins.

For the most part, men already wear black to award shows, and unfortunately, none of them took Jezebel’s Hazel Cills up on her suggestion that they should...

Coco will be taking home 2018’s Golden Globe for Best Animation Motion Picture. The Pixar film won out over a field of other animated films, including Loving Vincent, The Boss Baby, Ferdinand, and The Breadwinner.

Coco’s victory was a major win for the Latinx community, as it’s the first Pixar film to be centered on a Mexican cultural celebration.
James Franco won 2018’s Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical. The award is for his portrayal of independent filmmaker and actor Tommy Wiseau in The Disaster Artist. It’s a semi-fictional retelling of the production of Wiseau’s 2003 film The Room, popularly known as “the worst movie ever made.”

Franco accepted the award alongside Wiseau, while noticably body-blocking him away from taking the microphone onstage. Franco’s brother Dave, who co-starred in the film, also appeared onstage to accept the award. Franco told an anecdote about Wiseau getting stuck in traffic during the Globes 15 years ago, and stating in frustration that he was unwilling to “wait for Hollywood,” and was simply going to make his dream movie on his own.
