We’re just a few moments away from this year’s annual iPhone reveal — and it’s going to be a big one. But now it’s a great time to take a look back on some storied Apple history with a very clever Easter egg in Destiny 2 that appears to have been snuck into the game prior to release.

Bungie’s new shooter, which takes a far more hands-on approach to narrative storytelling and world-building this time around, now includes lengthy written backstories to each of its rare “exotic” weapons, which represent the pinnacle of players’ feverish collectathon impulses. One such weapon, an updated version of an original Destiny gun called Hard Light, has one you might recognize:

Today, we’re introducing three revolutionary products.

The first is a quick-config interface for outgoing damage. The second is a ricochet projectile that bounces off any surface. And the third an infinite range zero drop-off projection weapon platform.

So! Three new products in the Omolon portfolio. But, unlike other product launches, we won’t be staggering the releases.

We will be releasing them all at once. In a single device. In extremely limited quantities.

We call it Hard Light.

But there is one more thing.

Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who introduced the original iPhone back in 2007, said at the time that the company was introducing three revolutionary products: a widescreen iPod with touch control, a revolutionary mobile phone, a breakthrough internet communications device. Of course, the joke was that all three products were one in the same, marrying Apple’s MP3 player business with its then-nascent ambitions to enter the phone market.

I think we all know how that turned out: 10 years later, Apple is the most valuable corporation on the planet and the iPhone is one of the most successful consumer products in history. Unfortunately for Hard Light, a subpar auto rifle with some admittedly cool ricocheting rounds and lighting effects, we can’t confidently say it will have the same impact. But it’s neat reference all the same.
