I agree on this completely. But I do have an inelegant work around. Install Waze. When you want access G-Map, switch to Waze on A-Auto and then you’ll have access to G-Map on your phone, once you enter route and start navigation switch back to G-Map on A-Auto. The dumb thing is that access to G-Map on IOS/Carplay doesn’t have this limitation. It only displays the navigation screen on Carplay while on the phone itself, it displays the list of turn-by-turn steps. This is genius! Why wouldn’t Google do this?
