If we could get back to the £99 price point the third gen was at, it would be a lot more compelling. The HD makes no sense for your main TV and a £150 box makes no sense for a secondary TV. Really not sure who’s buying the HD. Even for a none 4K TV the 4K makes more sense for the extra longevity and small price difference.

I’ve got an Apple TV 4K for my main TV but would love a couple cheaper ones for secondary (older) TVs for AirPlay 2.

I think it’s a much more compelling form factor than the Fold with the tech as it is. Genuinely fits pockets a traditional phone wouldn’t.

At the risk of being naive the answer is pretty simply "very few people use the current services or buy existing products because it’s such a mess". A smaller portion of a much larger pie is better than a large portion of a small pie.

There’s basically going to be a split between people whose only device is an iPhone, and those who have many devices. If you’ve only had had iPhones (possibly AirPods and a slightly older/cheaper iPad) you may well have lots of Lightning cables (and possibly headphones) and nothing else.

The Eero 6 didn’t support it at launch so it’s possible it will be updated to, could just be cert (obviously still don’t buy it if you need).

Hmm hopefully they actually implement it into their products going forward (today in why is Samsung basically the only TV manfacturer who supports AirPlay 2 but not Homekit). Makes sense to prioritise hub support but would defeat the point of matter if everyone only supports it at a hub, not a device level.

Late I know but I just tried this. Managed to pass through a PS4 via ARC to a HomePod, but wouldn’t pass through to HomePod+another AirPlay 2 device.

Apple’s included 2m USB C 2.0 cable supports 100w charging (I’m not sure about the 1m cable that comes with the iPad). The new 16" Pro requires the MagSafe cable for 140w charging but obviously that’s outside the 100w spec.

Not to sound all "You’re holding it wrong" but aren’t watches traditionally worn just below the wrist knuckle to avoid impending wrist flexibility? (below as in further up the arm).

I don’t have everything set up to test right now (hooked up to a TV without eArc rn) but I just managed to output from the Apple TV to a single HomePod, and a combination of a HomePod and a MacBook Pro (via AirPlay) in sync. Given that eArc just passes through I’d presume the back haul is the same so should have the same compatibility but can’t confirm.

I have one and have considered buying a second (they’re not quite so bad in the UK). They’ve improved a lot since launch and if you want AirPlay 2 there aren’t really any better options in a similar price/form factor. Certainly not a bargain though.

The HomePod supports TV audio streamed from Apple TV (and even non Apple TV audio over eArc via an Apple TV). It works well tbh.
