All of your sources are laptops and tablets, which require more voltage. You aren’t destroying a phone with a 5v USB c cable.
There’s more than royalties on lightning cables. At one point their entire ecosystem was lightning. Add in accessories plus cables, and you can absolutely see their financial gain.

Nobody’s phone is getting destroyed with a off brand cable. The only way a phone fries is over voltage, and a crappy cable is going to give less voltage. The worst thing that happens is a slower charge.
You are delusional if you think apple isn’t changing because of profit. Garbage lightning cables exist too.

what exactly is there to test? its a port. data transfer, power. not that complicated.
