That’s the promise, but is it actually delivering ? Perhaps for you it does, but from what I’ve seen so far, it’s just too much compromises.
I also would like a bigger screen sometimes, but nothing’s free in this world and I don’t want to deal with the hassles of a non standard product on the way. After all, in the comfort of my house, I already have all the big screens I can ask for. On the go, well, I’m doing mostly something else than browsing the web anyways. If I have to stay a while, that also means I need to pack clothes shampoo and toothbrush, I can just as well add a tablet or a even a laptop.
I have a big phone (XS Max) that does most of the job, a tablet when I’m on the couch, and if on a work trip I have my laptop because I would prefer sitting on a cactus than doing work on a phone.

This, plus it always looked like a solution in search of a problem.
I mean, it looks mildly cool, but … why ?
If you need a bigger screen get a bigger phone or a tablet. There’s a limit to this tech anyways since no apps or websites are designed for these weird foldable formats.
Unless you manage to make it a standard, it will always be wonky even if the hardware execution is perfect.

Considering the importance of the service, I find paying for it quite normal.
Either you pay for it and get the insurance your data is safe (let’s say safer than any home-made method you would be using), or you choose an open-source service backed up by a strong community. As far as I know, there’s no such reliable open-source service that exists (maybe I’m wrong ?), all the alternatives are somewhere in the freemium zone.
If you want to get more philosophical, it’s now an unending problem since every online service requires an account, and thus passwords to keep. Unless someone invents some kind of universal and unbreakable authentication method, we’re stuck with this conendrum and have to do our best dealing with it. Worse, the surest ID would be one tied to your real unique personal ID since it is used as ground truth anyways, but then you will get the problem of privacy…
Long story short : we put us ourselves in this mess, now we can just pay the rest of our lives to relieve us of a small bit of anxiety.
