Android Auto has never worked flawlessly for me. I’ve had Android headunits for a while now, attempting to update my car’s infotainment systems. The old unit I had did not support Android Auto, no matter what I did. After upgrading my unit, Autokit allows for Android Auto to work. My phone previous was Android 9, and you had to install Android Auto separately, which made sense. Since upgrading to Android 10, it’s now preinstalled, so I ended up having two versions of Android Auto, one upgraded by Google Play, and the other not. Then I ran into issues with Android Auto not working so I uninstalled the Google Play version, and cleared the storage and cache of the embedded Android 10 version. Nothing worked, ended up being a problem with the Chrome browser on my phone. I use Google Voice as my primary method of communication. When I send texts, using Android Auto, it defaults to messages. When I make calls, it defaults to the phone dialer, and not Google Voice. Searching for locations in Waze or Maps brings up a huge keyboard, taking 80% of the screen, and make it hard to scan the locations that appear without lowering the keyboard. It’s also difficult looking for music in Youtube Music on both the Android headunit version and Android Auto version. So many issues with Android Auto!
I seriously cannot wait to have an excuse to move to CarPlay. The interface and user experience seems so much more polished, attractive and user friendly.
