It’s amazing how this has not been a huge scandal, and now it’s too late, even Google makes you give Plaid your full bank account login credentials if you want to cash out any money. Tech publications by and large have been silent about it and don’t even mention it every time they write about Plaid. Just like Theranos, where Tech and business publications were silent and just nodding along, even praising Holmes while the scam was going on, it took actual experts to at least express some kind of skepticism on social media and blogs and pretty much one journalist who was actually doing his job. Any security leak from Plaid has the potential to be a huge scandal as well, and everyone mentioned who’s not pushing back now is going to be complicit.
Even if they are completely secure and there are no leaks or hacks, just the fact that people are now being trained that it’s okay to give your bank’s password and login to a third party, not even the makers of the app you are trusting (e.g. Google) is horrendous and shame on Google in particular.
