You do realize that traditional media has controlled our democracy since its inception right? The only difference is that everybody gets a chance at a large platform for their voice, whether they should or not.
Teaching people how to properly find out information for themselves, instead of relying on others, is crucial to saving our democracy. Not getting rid of social media.

The smudges are result of oils and other things that wiped onto it over time. Wash it in the laundry, and you’ll find that this isn’t a problem until after a while again.

You are aware that 80% capacity doesn’t mean that it’s still working properly, right? I’ve encountered numerous iPhones with 90%+ health left that still shut down prematurely at < 40% in colder weather. And yet, iOS still had the battery marked as "peak performance capability."
I can also say that having an iPhone X that had 92% health really seemed like 70%. And I’m sure Apple’s health calculation is totally in their favor.

That would obviously make repairability a nonissue, but then it would probably compromise structural integrity, water/dustproofing, battery size/capacity, and aesthetics.
I doubt this would be the case, or else the removable SIM card tray would’ve been an issue.

I switched to prepaid MVNO’s 4 years ago from Verizon and never looked back. $25/mo for unlimited everything, no taxes/fees.
Since mine operates on T-Mobile’s network, it actually surpassed Verizon in speed and coverage once the Sprint merger completed. I have Verizon for my work phone and surprisingly, my speeds were often much better on the MVNO than Verizon when testing both in the same place/time.

Many MVNOs don’t get access to big carrier’s legacy 2G & 3G networks, which are still operating to fill in certain coverage gaps.
It won’t matter later this year though when Verizon turns off its 2G and 3G networks for good. I believe T-Mobile already did and ATT have sunset plans as well.
