Always fascinating to see the privacy narcissism mentality in the wild.

Yup. Nobody wins in this kind of pursuit. In the last round the volume changing patent is the only one that really impacted consumers and was by far the most bullshit. Google has a massive catalogue of patents, I’m sure they can catch Sonos on some technicality but it will just make products worse for no good reason.

Yup, they’d all love to own the standard.
But do they have apple on board? Or Google? Because they own the hardware.

That matter hasn’t launched yet and very few people have thread border routers.
But that will change overnight as apple, Google and Amazon devices get updated to be border routers. If cost is an issue that cost will come down overtime and matter will have the strongest consumer ecosystem.

Lot of cynicism in this comment section. Lot of nitpicking and "well actually" going on.
The most important thing here is that all the major players are supporting it. It means that it will be the standard going forward. You can have a lot more confidence that an IoT device will work for your ecosystem of choice on a low latency network. That is the biggest issue in IoT right now. It frees up every company from thinking about connectivity so they can focus on the product.
This is the biggest thing to happen for the smart home since it started to gain traction a decade ago.

Their science reporting is still excellent but their tech reporting is trash these days.

They could have had a faulty unit. Also was the review by Ron? That might explain things….
