I feel like a good portion of the issues here could be, not resolved, but at least addressed if one were to consider the platform they were playing on prior to selecting a game. Are big AAA pin-point shooting, twitch reaction games going to be ideal on your phone? Of course not. When using the cloud on my phone, I’m much more likely to select smaller indie experiences like Monster Train or Stardew Valley, which seem to fit the phone cloud gaming experience much better.
Is a dedicated gaming peripheral always going to be be better at playing games than a phone on the go? Of course, and that goes for the smaller games I mentioned as well. But that’s a solitary part of the costs/benefits of both devices. If you have access to a Steam Deck in immediate reach, then yeah, you should definitely use that, it’s a trivial answer. It’s just not one of the options for a lot of people who are going to use cloud gaming.
