When Yahoo redesigned its webmail service two months ago, it got rid of tabs, a feature the company says often confused users when they had too many open. That feature was later replaced by a "recent" view, which showed the last few messages in a short list. Now Yahoo has brought tabs back with another feature designed to let users with tons of tabs quickly see what they're working on. The new toggle works a lot like Apple's Exposé, putting every tab into a grid, with visual previews. Yahoo says the recent list will continue to live on alongside the new tab view, which will arrive for all users over the next few days.

Yahoo Mail turned 16 years old in October, and the removal of the tabs was just part of a larger redesign for the service, which has more than 100 million daily users. That includes themes that take a page from the company's mobile weather apps, a new compose view, and 1 terabyte of storage. Even with those additions, much of the attention has focused instead on Yahoo's internal issues with Mail: both in an extended downtime that lasted for days (something CEO Marissa Mayer apologized for), as well as problems getting the company's employees to use it in the first place.
